CARPENTER FROM NEWTON ABBOT REACHES SEMI-FINAL OF SCREWFIX TOP
TRADESPERSON AWARD
Astrid Arnold from Newton Abbot has reached the semi-final of the national award.

Screwfix says:

The carpenter is amongst 27 semi-finalists shortlisted for the national final of
Screwfix Top Tradesperson 2023.

Astrid, 48, who owns TouchWood South West has been working in the trade for 23 years.
Her initial application highlighted Astrid’s professionalism, dedication, and commitment to
supporting the future of the industry, securing her a place in the semi-finals for the coveted
award.
Astrid started her career at the Women’s Education in Building College, leaving with an NVQ
Level 2 in Site Carpentry and Joinery, and going on to work on building sites in London. She
started TouchWood South West in 2015.
The TouchWood team of tradeswomen teach a wide range of courses for up-and-coming
tradespeople, as well as for DIY-ers, alongside their offering of traditional carpentry services.
The firm is also involved in several charitable initiatives including supporting women who are
survivors of domestic violence and starting an initiative called ‘Women Build!’ which helps
unemployed women with their mental health through carpentry and woodworking.

She will now compete against 26 other top tradespeople from across the UK and the
Republic of Ireland, who were selected from over 1000 applications, for the chance to be
shortlisted as a top 10 finalist.

The ultimate trade bundle of tools, tech, and training worth £20,000 will be awarded to the
champion at Screwfix LIVE in September.
