Q – Do I have to have any prior knowledge or previous experience to come on a course?
A – NO! There is no expectation for you to have any previous experience. Wherever you are at with learning practical skills is perfect. Whether you are a complete beginner or have some experience, you will be able to learn something new on our courses. You can check them all out here.
Q – There isn’t any space on the course I want to book, what shall I do?
A – If the course if full please add yourself to the waiting list to that particular course on the booking page. This helps us gauge interest and lets us know when we need to schedule new dates for the course.
Q – Where will the courses take place?
A – Most of our courses take place at the TouchWood Workshop near Moretonhampstead. We occasionally run courses at other venues but find it difficult to find other suitably equipped workshop spaces.
Q – What skills will I learn?
A – It depends which course you book on to! All of our courses are designed to give you a solid grounding in the particular skill. We always start with the basics upon which you will be able to build. We intend our courses to be like a key that opens new doors and new possibilities. For a more detailed description of the course content of any particular course, go to our booking page here.
Q – What can you recommend as a basic tool list?
A – You don’t need much to start with, and it depends a little on the project you want to work on. Here is a basic list of tools as a good starting point!
Q – I don’t identify as a woman, can I still take part?
A – If you were assigned female at birth, but don’t identify as a woman, you can still take part. To us it doesn’t matter which gender you identify with, but having grown up as a girl/woman most likely meant that you grew up in a world with certain stereotypes and certain opportunities – in terms of practical skills – that were opened or closed for you. If you would like to get in touch with any queries, don’t hesitate to ask here!
Q – Why don’t you run more courses on weekends?
A – All of our tutors are Tradeswomen who work 5 days a week and need a break to continue working the next week. So in short, we need to have days off as well!
